Several times we encountered bands of heavy brash-ice and had to gradually nudge our way through. Thank goodness for ice-strengthening on the hull!

We were concerned that the weight of the ice might start to break the rigging, and it was a relief that finally the weather changed and the ice started to fall off.

As we left Deception Island we were hit by a storm. As the waves crashed over the yacht the sea water immediately froze to the yacht, the rigging, and those of us on watch.
